Rachel visiting Wrens Nest Road scheme (“Wenlock Gate”)
Rachel Barclay’s work experience with Jessup
Rachel joined us for work experience from Monday the 16th of July until Thursday the 19th of July to have a look and insight into the jobs that construction managers do. This allowed her to see if this was an area in which she would like to go into after her A level studies. She visited a variety of different sites across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Dudley. Each site was at a different stage of construction and allowed her to see the progression of how a project may come on.
She said that she felt that it was a ‘useful way for me to see what goes into being a construction manager at each stage and the obstacles that each different site had.’ Rachel felt that she met a variety of other roles, which were also included in the process, she might want to explore more as other career options she may have otherwise not considered. She also saw other aspects which need to be taken into consideration such as the considerate constructor scheme.
She felt that ‘being able to shadow conversations on the requirements gave me more appreciation of the amount of work and dedication is needed in the job.’ By the end of her time with us she felt that this secured her ideas of joining the construction industry. ‘After my work experience I think that this is an area that I would really like to pursue as I enjoyed it very much. whether it is down the apprenticeship degree or university route. This will allow me to have a previous understanding of some of the process before entering that next stage of education.’
